During WWII, the German Wehrmacht used the Luger P08 as the standard service sidearm but costly manufacturing lead to its replacement with the simpler P38 from 1942 onwards. The original P38 and its later variants served Germany right up to the early 1990s. A highly flexible weapon choice for the Airsoft period gamer, the P38 can be logically used as a sidearm by Axis and German forces from WWII right through the cold war as well.
Although it has a fixed slide, its double action trigger makes it consistent and reliable to shoot with no slide action to malfunction, jam or foul up. At around 300 fps its power is very decent for short pistol ranges and with a 15 round magazine its capacity is not the largest out there but its certainly enough for a backup weapon.
As a small, compact, lightweight weapon it makes for a practical choice for a backup weapon as well. Much smaller and lighter then many pistols, it can be carried so comfortably it can almost be forgotten except when its needed when it can be drawn and fired immediately due to the auto feeding double-action trigger mechanism.
